We all know that anyone with an International Driver's Permit or a foreign license is not allowed to drive a vehicle in China within China, even a driver's license issued in Hong Kong or Macau is not allowed to drive a vehicle in the mainland. For foreigners who want to drive in Chinese mainland, they must obtain a driving license in China.
我们都知道，中国境内不批准任何持有国际驾照或外国驾照的人在中国驾驶车辆，即使是在香港或澳门颁发的驾驶执照也不允许在内地驾驶车辆。对于想在中国内陆开车的外国人来说，他们必须获得中国的驾驶执照。
1、What kind of foreigner can get a Chinese driving license?什么样的外国人可以获得中国驾驶证？
If a foreigner already has a foreign driver's license, he can exchange the foreign driver's license for a Chinese driver's license during the validity period of the foreign driver's license.如果外国人已经持有了外国驾照，那么他就可以在外国驾照的有效期内，用外国驾照换成中国驾照。
2、What documents need to be submitted:需要提交什么文件：
（1）Proof of identity of the applicant (Passport and over 90days resident permit )申请人的身份证明（护照和90天以上的居留许可证明）
（2）A health certificate issued by a medical institution at or above the county level.县级以上医疗机构出具的健康证明
（3）Chinese translation of the foreign driver's license.

3、When changing a Chinese driver's license, applicants need to take the test (with English test questions and reference materials).换中国驾照时，申请者需要参加考试（有英文试题和参考资料）。
（1）Applicants applying for large buses, tractors, medium-sized buses and large trucks should take subject 1 (written test) and subject 3 (road test);申请大型客车、牵引车、中型客车、大型货车的申请者应考科目一（笔试）和科目三（路考）；
（2）Applicants applying for other models such as small cars should take subject 1 (written test).申请小型汽车等其他车型的申请者应考科目一（笔试）。
4、There are two types of Chinese driver's licenses: a formal Chinese driver's license and a temporary driver's license.中国驾照分为两种:正式的中国驾驶证和临时的驾驶证。
（1）A formal driver's license applies to foreigners whom stay for more than 90 days.正式的驾驶证适用于居留有效期90天以上的外国人。
（2）The temporary driving licence is intended for those working on short visits or business trips in China. Temporary driver's license is valid according to the passport visa, valid for more than or equal to one year to get one year, less than one year only to give 90 days. 临时的驾驶证是为那些在中国进行短期访问或商务旅行的人准备的。临时驾照是根据护照签证有效期来决定的，有效期大于等于一年可以拿到一年，少于一年只给90天。

The foreign driver's license must be a non-temporary valid driver's license with individual driving qualifications. If the driver's license has expired, temporary driver's license, or endorsement restricting driving, etc., it cannot be applied.外国驾驶证必须是具有个人驾驶资格的非临时有效的驾驶执照。如果驾驶证超过有效期、临时驾驶证或限制驾驶的签注等，则不能申请。
5、How to Convert to Chinese Driver's License?如何转换为中国驾驶证？
If a foreigner already has a valid foreign driver's license, they can apply for a Chinese driver's license to drive the same type of vehicle listed on the foreign driver's license. In China, the issuance of driving licenses is the responsibility of the traffic police department (DMV). Each major city has its own branch.如果外国人已经拥有一个有效期内的外国驾驶执照，可以申请一个中国驾驶执照来驾驶外国驾驶执照上所列的相同类型的车辆。在中国，驾驶执照的发放是由交通警察部门（车管所）负责的。每个主要城市都有自己的分支机构。

Submit documents including translations of foreign driver's licenses in the business hall of the management department of the vehicle management office and pay the fee.在车辆管理所管理部门的业务大厅提交包括外国驾照翻译在内的文件并支付费用。
